Yusmarg, Kashmir
Yusmarg translates to "Meadow of Jesus." It's a local legend that Jesus Christ at some point travelled to this place, although there is no historical or archeological record to back this folklore.
Nature has bestowed Yusmarg with pleasant flora and fauna. It is often referred to as a trekkers paradise. Yusmarg provides space for beautiful landscapes, young pine nurseries, green pastures and heart touching lotic and lentic water bodies. Nilnag, Doodhganga and a nascently created artificial dam adds more to the beauty of the meadows.
Yusmarg is an alpine valley covered with snow clad mountains and meadows of Pine and Fir. It lies 18 km (11 mi) south of Charar-i-Sharief, one of the most sacrosanct shrines in Kashmir. A trek of 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from Yusmarg leads to a small freshwater lake called Nilnag, famous for its blue/turquoise water.
Yusmarg is a serene getaway in the Kashmir Valley that is away from the crowded tourist hotspots of the region. This offbeat location is more peaceful and pristine during the summer season when the meadows turn into vibrant shades of green, with blankets of wildflowers seen everywhere.
