Badamwari, Kashmir

Badamwari (or Badam-vaer) in Kashmiri means "almond alcove." Famed for its magical vistas during the spring season when the pink canopy of almonds and cherry trees are in full bloom, Badamwari Garden is one of the prettiest and must-see places in the Kashmir Valley. Although some historians believe that the garden existed even before the rule of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin in the 14th century, nobody knows as to who actually ordered this lovely almond alcove to be laid out. A well covered magnificent dome housed inside the garden is named after an Afghan ruler, Warris Shah. This comparatively lesser-known garden in Srinagar boasts streams and fountains and is considered one of Srinagar’s hidden gems.

Badamwari Garden is a piece of heaven tucked away in Srinagar city. After braving the vagaries of harsh winter, Badamwari is the first to reverberate with life on the onset of spring season in Kashmir. Locals assemble inside the almond garden and announce the arrival of spring with music and mirth. Apart from almonds, different other varieties of flowers are present in the garden which present a scintillating view.

The Badamwari Park also has trails carved for tourists to walk on. During spring, the delicate pink beauty of the flowering almond trees looks fairytale pretty. In March and April, the almond garden offers breathtaking views of beautiful almond blossoms and cascades of other flowers of Kashmir which become a source of attraction for nature lovers and tourists, alike.
